WHY DID INDIAN GOVERNMENT BANNED BGMI IN 2022

In Lucknow, a 16-year-old boy is accused of murdering his mother in June after she reprimanded him for playing BGMI. The event sparked a new discussion concerning the brutality of these games and was brought up in the legislature. The government responded by declaring that it would take action against such apps.

“There Are Various Reports And Grievances Received In The Ministry Of Electronics And Information Technology (MeitY), Conveying That Apps That Were Blocked Are Appearing With A New Avatar By Using Similar Sounding Names Or Rebranded With The Same Functionality,” said Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister Of State For Electronics & IT.
All such reports and grievances have been forwarded for examination to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the requesting agency.
MeitY adheres to the due process requirements outlined in the Information Technology (Procedure And Safeguards For Blocking Public Access To Information) Rules, 2009.”

The ban could also be connected to the BGMI’s link to China.
While the app is published by South Korea-based Krafton, China’s Tencent Holdings has a 13.6% stake in the company through its subsidiary, Image Frame.

A report by Reuters said BGMI has been banned under Section 69A of the IT Act, the same section earlier used to ban PUBG.

The provision allows the government to block public access to apps and websites in the interest of national security.

What did Krafton say about the BGMI ban?

Krafton confirmed the app’s removal and stated that they were attempting to restore it. We’ll update you as soon as we learn more about how BGMI was removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
